Lines of cover

What each business policy does.

Most firms need three or four of these. A risk review tells us which, and how much cover each one needs.

Fire and property

Buildings, plant, machinery and stock against fire, flood, earthquake and riot. Since 2021 the product depends on the value at risk: Bharat Sookshma (up to ₹5 crore), Bharat Laghu (up to ₹50 crore) or a Standard Fire policy above that. Mills, see textile mill insurance.

Business interruption

Lost gross profit and the extra cost of working while you rebuild after insured damage, so fixed costs and wages don't sink the business.

Marine cargo

Goods in transit by road, rail, sea or air, for imports, exports and inland dispatches. An open or annual policy covers every shipment automatically.

Engineering (CAR, EAR, machinery breakdown)

Contractor's all-risk and erection all-risk cover projects from groundwork to handover; machinery breakdown covers sudden failure of plant in operation.

Public and product liability

Your legal liability for injury or property damage to others, at your premises or caused by products you make or sell. Exporters to the US and Europe usually need it.

Professional indemnity and D&O

Professional indemnity covers claims for errors in your advice or services; directors' and officers' liability protects the personal assets of directors against management claims.

Cyber insurance

Costs after a data breach or ransomware attack: forensic investigation, data restoration, legal costs, business interruption and third-party claims.

Employees' compensation

Your liability under the Employees' Compensation Act for injury or death of workers in the course of employment, plus medical expenses if you add them.
